Two U.S. Troops Killed In Afghanistan

27 September 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The U.S. military says two American soldiers have been killed in separate militant attacks in Afghanistan.
The U.S. military said in a statement that one of the soldiers died on 26 September during a ground operation by Afghan and U.S. forces west of Kandahar when militants opened fire with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms.

Another U.S. soldier was wounded in the incident.

The U.S. military said U.S. and Afghan forces returned fire, killing two militants and wounding a third.

In the second incident, the U.S. military said a Marine died when a U.S. forward operating base near Asadabad came under mortar, rocket-propelled-grenade, and small-arms fire on 27 September.
