Afghan President Seeks Support From France

President Karzai (file photo) 3 October 2005 -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai, on his first official visit to France, met today with French President Jacques Chirac.
Afghan and French officials said Karzai planned to seek France's continued support in the reconstruction, security, economic development, and cultural affairs of Afghanistan.

Karzai was also expected to meet with France's prime minister, defense and foreign ministers, and address parliament.

Karzai, leading a delegation made up of ministers and security officials, arrived in Paris yesterday for a four-day visit. He also planned a brief trip to Berlin today.
