12 October 2005 -- Six Afghan soldiers and five aid workers were killed today in Afghanistan.
The attacks were blamed by Afghan officials on Taliban insurgents as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited for talks.
Rice arrived in Afghanistan today for a short visit on a tour of Central Asia. Earlier today, militants fired rockets near the Canadian ambassador's residence in the capital Kabul. Interior Ministry spokesman Mohammad Yusef Stanizai said the rockets did no harm.
"One rocket hit one of the streets in Wazir Akbar Khan (a district in central Kabul) and the second rocket landed near a logistics office for the national security department and fortunately it did not cause casualties or damages. The rockets
were fired at 4 a.m. from the east of Kabul."
Also today, U.S. warplanes bombed a Taliban hideout in Uruzgan Province killing up to 10 militants.
