Iran Petitions Iraq On Hussein Charges

Saddam Hussein with his generals (file photo) 18 October 2005 -- Iran has asked the Baghdad court set to try Saddam Hussein to charge the former Iraqi leader with crimes from the Iran-Iraq war, such as his use of chemical weapons.
Iranian government spokesman Jamal Karimirad said the petition was filed today through diplomatic channels to the court where Hussein is due to begin his trial on 19 October.

Hussein and seven senior members of his toppled regime will stand trial on charges of ordering the 1982 massacre of nearly 150 people from the mainly Shi'ite town of Al-Dujayl following a failed attempt on his life.

So far Hussein has not been charged with actions against Iran during the 1980-88 war.
