Attack Kills Two Iraqi Police

(RFE/RL) 24 October 2005 -- Police say a suicide car bomber today killed two police officers in an attack on a police patrol in Baghdad.
Police Lieutenant Malik Sultan said three other officers and two civilians were wounded in the attack in the northeastern neighborhood of Shaab.

The commander of Kirkuk's police force, Brigadier General Sarhat Qadir, said a roadside bomb also exploded in the northern city, seriously wounding a senior member of Iraq's Kurdish Democratic Party, Ibrahim Zangana. One of his bodyguards was killed and another one injured.

On 23 October, at least 30 Iraqis died in a swell of violence, including 12 Iraqi construction workers who were gunned down south of Baghdad.

Police sources say the workers were building a new government building in Mussayyib and that the attackers kidnapped the contractor who had hired them.
