Provincial administrator Ghulam Muhiddin says the dead include the province's Taliban chief, Mullah Kabir. He
says the fighting started last night after insurgents ambushed a police convoy.

Meanwhile, Interior Ministry spokesman Yousuf Stanekzai says police arrested three men near Kabul suspected
of plotting a suicide bombing in the capital.

Also today, the NATO-led peacekeeping force says three Dutch troops were injured when their helicopter made an
emergency landing yesterday. The helicopter was flying from the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif to Kabul.

It is not clear what caused the incident.
