India Says Russian Military Imports Reaching $9 Billion

15 November 2005 -- India's defense minister said today that New Delhi is spending nearly $9 billion on Russian weapons and military equipment.

Prahab Mukherjee was speaking today at a meeting in Moscow of a Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission for military-technical cooperation.


Mukherjee is in Moscow for two days of talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov.


India accounts for nearly 40 percent of Russian exports of military hardware. New Delhi says Russia is its primary supplier of armaments and military hardware.
