24 November 2005 -- At least 32 people have been killed and dozens of others injured today in a pair of car bombings hours apart in two towns south of Baghdad.
Thirty people were confirmed dead and 34 others reported wounded in Mahmoudiya, some 20 kilometers south of the capital, after a car bomb exploded outside a hospital.
Hours later, at least two were reported dead and more than 10 injured when a suspected car bomb ripped through a crowded marketplace in Hillah.
Hilla has been the scene of a number of bloody attacks, including two bombings that killed at least 35 people within a five-day period in late September and early October.
Also in Iraq, the U.S. military said today that at least two U.S. soldiers were killed in fighting yesterday during combat operations south of Baghdad. No other details were released.
