Astana, 13 December 2005 -- Kazakhstan's energy minister says that Kazakhstan will start pumping oil to China within months, RFE/RL’s Kazakh Service reports.
Speaking on 13 December, Kazakh Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Vladimir Shkolnik said the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline is to be completed and onstream in mid-2006.
The 988 kilometer-long Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline is capable of carrying huge amounts of oil to China each year.
In an effort to satisfy its massive, and growing energy needs, China has been seeking foreign sources of energy increasingly actively in recent years.
