Russia Tests New Ballistic Missile

The crew of a Russian nuclear submarine take the salute, November 2005 (epa) 21 December 2005 -- The Russian Navy says it has successfully test-launched a newly developed long-range ballistic missile.
The Bulava missile blasted off from a submerged nuclear submarine in the White Sea and hit its designated target in the far-eastern Kamchatka Peninsula.

It was the second test-firing of the new generation missile Bulava and the first underwater launch of the missile.

The intercontinental ballistic missile has a range of 8,000 kilometers.
