Serbian Police Detain Would-Be Assassin Of Billionaire

(RFE/RL) 21 January 2006 --  Police in Belgrade have detained a man claiming he received an offer to assassinate a wealthy businessman and member of the Serbian opposition, Bogoljub Karic.

Police spokeswoman Dragana Kajganic says that the 38-year-old man, Dejan Simic, told Karic's lawyers that he had been offered nearly $730,000 to kill their client.


Karic, a billionaire entrepreneur, is currently under investigation for allegedly trying to bribe Serbian lawmakers.
