Georgia Stops Deliveries Of Iranian Gas

Georgians in Tbilisi waited in long lines for gas last month (file photo) (InterPressNews) 6 February 2006 -- Georgia's Energy Ministry today said that Iranian gas supplies to Georgia have stopped flowing.
Energy Ministry spokeswoman Teona Doliashvili says Georgia no longer needs an alternative to Russian gas.


On 22 January, pipeline explosions cut off Russian gas supplies to Georgia. Tbilisi quickly turned to Iran for help, signing a short-term gas supply contract while Russia repaired the pipelines.The damaged pipelines are now operational.


Tbilisi originally accused Russia of deliberately cutting off the gas and vowed to reduce its energy dependence on Moscow.
