Turkish President To Hold Talks In Georgia

(RFE/RL) 14 March 2006 -- Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer is expected today in neighboring Georgia on a two-day official visit.

Sezer is scheduled to meet with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli, and Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanadze for talks on economic issues and regional security.

Turkey and Georgia are involved in two major energy projects and Ankara has expressed hope that its trade volume with Tbilisi will reach $3 billion a year by 2009, up from the current $500 million.

Both countries last month eased the visa regulations that have existed between them since 1991.
