Arab League Summit Opens In Sudan

The situation in Sudan's Darfur region is to be discussed (AFP) March 28, 2006 -- A two-day Arab League summit has opened in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, with several key regional leaders staying away.
The absence of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah will diminish the value of any resolutions adopted by the summit on sensitive issues.

The annual summit of the 22 members of the Arab League is expected to discuss issues including Iraq, the creation of the new Hamas-led Palestinian government, and the bloodshed in Sudan's Darfur region.
