Britain Grants Asylum To Afghan Hijackers

(RFE/RL) May 10, 2006 -- Nine Afghans who hijacked an airplane to Britain during the rule of the Taliban regime have won a court fight for to be recognized as refugees.

The men were jailed for hijacking the Afghan Ariana jetliner in February 2002, but their convictions were overturned by an appeals court in 2003.
