Kazakh Workers Demand Higher Wages From Mittal Steel

(RFE/RL) June 4, 2006 -- Around 3,000 steel workers held a rally in Kazakhstan's central Karaganda region today to demand better wages.

No incidents were reported at the sanctioned rally, which was held in the town of Shakhtinsk.


The protesters all work for Mittal Steel's Temirtau plant.


Mittal Steel, registered in the Netherlands and run from London, is the world's largest steelmaker.
