Six Killed In Fire At Russian Naval Academy

June 24, 2006 -- A fire broke out in a dormitory at a naval academy in St. Petersburg early today, killing six cadets and injuring 18.

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry reported the deaths at the Makarov Naval Academy, and said the fire broke out in the corridor and spread to four dormitory rooms.


Russia sees an estimated 18,000 deaths from fires each year.
