Suicide Bomber Kills Seven In Baghdad Restaurant

The scene of the restaurant bombing in Baghdad today (epa) July 12, 2006 -- A suicide bomber walked into a restaurant in eastern Baghdad today and blew himself up, killing seven people and wounding 20.

Also today, police found the bodies of 20 people who were kidnapped earlier in the day from a bus station in Al-Muqdadiyah, a town about 90 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.

The Baghdad violence came as U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, in an unannounced visit to Iraq, held security talks in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone with Iraqi leaders and U.S. military commanders.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said today that insurgents are trying to take control of western Baghdad, but he vowed they won't succeed.
