Probe Opened Into HIV Infection Of Kazakh Children

An AIDS awareness poster in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe (file photo) (RFE/RL) July 17, 2006 -- Prosecutors in a southern province of Kazakhstan have opened a criminal investigation after 14 children aged between two months and two years were infected with the HIV virus.

All of the children recently received blood transfusions, but at three separate hospitals.


The authorities are questioning doctors at those hospitals and reviewing blood donor records.
