Germany Ordered To Pay Russian Airline For 2002 Collision

July 27, 2006 -- A German court ruled that Germany must pay damages to a Russian airline over a 2002 collision that killed 71 people.

German authorities had argued that Swiss air-traffic controllers who were guiding the Bashkir Airlines plane should be liable for its collision with a cargo aircraft near the Swiss-German border.

The court has not yet ruled on the sum that should be paid, but the airline is seeking $3.3 in damages from Germany.
