Ukrainian Parliament Puts Off Holiday Over Crisis

The crisis over the formation of a new government descended into scuffles in parliament on July 11 (Ukrinform) July 28, 2006 -- Ukraine's parliament voted today to postpone its summer recess to give the country's political parties more time to agree on a coalition government.

Following roundtable discussions on July 27, President Viktor Yushchenko's Our Ukraine party and the new pro-Russian majority in parliament are expected later today to sign a declaration on the policy principles of a "coalition of national unity."


Parliament was to have started its recess today.
