August 7, 2006 – Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry today said the commander of the U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan, General Karl Eikenberry, visited Astana last week.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ilyas Omarov said Eikenberry met with defense officials and high-ranking diplomats to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, but provided no further details.
Kazakhstan has granted the U.S. overflight rights for its operations in Afghanistan.
