U.S. Commander In Afghanistan Visited Kazakhstan

U.S. Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry (right) with the British commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, Lieutenant General David Richards (file photo) (epa) August 7, 2006 – Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry today said the commander of the U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan, General Karl Eikenberry, visited Astana last week.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ilyas Omarov said Eikenberry met with defense officials and high-ranking diplomats to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, but provided no further details.


Kazakhstan has granted the U.S. overflight rights for its operations in Afghanistan.
