Georgia To Build Town In Kodori Gorge

Georgian troops in July carried out an operation aimed at flushing out a militia group operating in the Kodori Gorge (InterPressNews) August 15, 2006 -- Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili today ordered his government to build a small town and an air field in Georgia's Kodori Gorge.

The Kodori Gorge straddles the border between the breakaway republic of Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia.

Saakashvili said this would serve as a lesson for separatists and those protecting them, and would show Abkhazia that "we can do in a month what they have been unable to do for 14 years."
