Baghdad Bomb Kills 12

(RFE/RL) August 30, 2006 -- Iraqi police say an explosives-rigged bicycle went off today near an army recruiting center in a city south of Baghdad, killing at least 12 people and wounding 28.

A police official says a man posing as a potential army recruit planted the bicycle in the morning hours outside the recruiting center in Al-Hillah, about 95 kilometers from Baghdad.

The official says the man walked off as volunteers gathered outside to sign up for the army, and the bomb detonated.
