Kazakh Prime Minister Vows To Punish Brawling Workers

(RFE/RL) November 1, 2006 -- Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov today vowed to bring to justice the instigators of recent clashes between Turkish and Kazakh oil workers in the western city of Atyrau.

The incidents took place on October 20, reportedly after a Kazakh employee attempted to cut into a food line at a Tengizchevroil subcontractor.


Tengizchevroil General Director Todd Levy today said one Indian, 193 Turkish, and two Kazakh workers suffered injuries during the clashes.
