Montenegro Accuses Ethnic-Albanian Group Of Plotting

(RFE/RL) November 6, 2006 -- Montenegro's state prosecutor has accused a group of ethnic Albanians -- arrested on the eve of the September 10 parliamentary election -- of plotting to destabilize the newly independent state.

Prosecutor Vesna Medenica today said the 14 ethnic Albanians planned terrorist attacks aimed at intimidating the non-Albanian population.

Leaders of the ethnic-Albanian community have dismissed the accusations as politically motivated.

Montenegro became independent from Serbia in June.
