Ukraine's Interior Minister Guilty Of Corruption

Yuriy Lutsenko (left) with Viktor Yushchenko in an undated file photo (AFP) November 20, 2006 -- A Kyiv court has found Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko guilty of corruption.

The court ruled he granted officer ranks illegally and gave pistols to citizens who did not have proper licenses.


He was fined $65, but plans to appeal.


Lutsenko -- a key ally of President Viktor Yushchenko -- was a leading force in the mass street protests that helped Yushchenko defeat current Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych in the 2004 presidential election.
