ISAF Launches Major Operation In Kandahar

(RFE/RL) December 15, 2006 -- The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan today announced the start of a new operation against Taliban loyalists in the southern province of Kandahar.

Hundreds of British, Estonian, and Danish troops, accompanied by Afghan security forces, moved from neighboring Helmand Province into Kandahar's Zahre and Panjwayi districts.


Commanders called the operation one of the largest by ISAF forces in months.
