Bomb-Like Device Found Under Serbian Politician's Car

Cedomir Jovanovic, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, addressing an anti-government, pro-European rally in Belgrade, May 2006 (epa) January 20, 2007 -- Two days ahead of parliamentary elections in Serbia, police in Belgrade have removed a bomb-like device from beneath a vehicle used by the leader of a pro-western party.

A police spokesman quoted on B92 television described the package as harmless, saying it had wet powder and no detonator.


Security guards are reported to have discovered the device while Liberal Democratic Party leader Cedomir Jovanovic was having a meeting nearby on January 19.


Serbs are due to vote in parliamentary elections on January 21.
