Romanian Police Leave Kosovo During UN Probe

March 23, 2007 -- The United Nations' Mission in Kosovo complained today that 11 Romanian police officers had left the province despite an ongoing UN investigation into the police killing of two Albanian protesters in February in Pristina.

They were among 75 Romanians with the UN police in Kosovo who returned to Romania on March 22. The officers were involved in clashes during which two protesters were shot with rubber bullets.

Kosovo's interior minister and the UN police chief resigned following their deaths.
