Iran Jails Reporters Over Banned Rallies

(RFE/RL) June 10, 2007 -- An Iranian court has sentenced two journalists who covered banned protest rallies in a Kurdish area to up to three years in jail.

ISNA student agency, quoting the lawyer of the two reporters, said today that a court in the town of Sanandaj, in northwestern Kurdistan Province, jailed Jalal Ghavami for three years and Saeed Saedi for 2 1/2 years for attending two illegal rallies in 2005.
