Iran's Central Bank Governor Steps Down

(RFE/RL) August 26, 2007 -- Iran's official IRNA news agency says that the head of the Iranian central bank, Ibrahim Sheibani, has resigned and that the resignation had been accepted by President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's administration.

The resignation comes two weeks after Ahmadinejad replaced his ministers of industry and oil in a surprise move that is seen as an attempt to increase his control over the economy.
