Chernomyrdin Calls CIS Countries To Join Union Agreement

Moscow, April 12 (RFE/RL) - Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin praised the agreement signed last month by Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on closer economic ties and called on other CIS countries to join the treaty.

Our correspondent says Chernomyrdin made the statement today opening a one-day session in Moscow of CIS prime ministers.

CIS prime ministers today approved an oil transit agreement.

Also on the agenda are discussions on the joint air-defence system and draft agreements on border guards cooperation as well as joint measures to combat organised crime.
