Estonia: Election Results Expected Later This Week

Tallinn, 21 October 1996 (RFE/RL) -- Estonians will have to wait until late this week to learn the results of their local elections held yesterday.

BNS reports that voter turnout was 52 percent, with the highest turnout in the northeast of the country, which has a large non-Estonian population.

Local elections were monitored by five observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which reported no irregularities in the voting.
