Poland: Armament Workers Protest

  • By Chris Klimiuk

Warsaw, 7 March 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Workers from 31 Polish armament industry plants gathered in Warsaw this morning for a protest action in defense of their work places.

The trade unionists, representing a number of trade unions including Solidarity, plan to rally at Three Crosses Square (Plac Trzech Krzyzy) and then to march to government buildings.

The chairman of the Solidarity armament industry chapter, Stanislaw Glowacki, says the workers are demanding implementation of a restructuring program approved by the government in May 1996.
