Romania: Delegation Expected At NATO Headquarters

Brussels, 2 April 1997 (RFE/RL) - Romania is the next "Partnership for Peace" member sending a delegation to NATO headquarters. A delegation from Romania's foreign and defense ministries holds talks in Brussels tomorrow on NATO enlargement.

Romania was the first country to enroll in NATO's "Partnership for Peace" program.

A series of such bi-lateral talks started last month with Lithuania. And, Macedonia and Slovakia are also expected to send delegations this month.

Our Brussels correspondent reports NATO officials are currently engaged in a study of the costs of enlargement in preparation for the Madrid summit in July, when several countries are expected to be invited to begin negotiations on joining NATO.
