Romania: Netherlands Leads Foreign Investment

Bucharest, 27 October 1997 (RFE/RL) - Statistics show the Netherlands is the largest foreign investor in Romania, with total capital of nearly $300 million pumped into the economy between March 1990 and September 1997. The latest data, released by the Romanian Development Agency (RDA) over the weekend, show the U.S. is in second place, with $255 million, followed closely by Germany.

RDA announced also that the total value of foreign investment in Romania during the 1990-1997 period was of about $3.4 billion.

Our correspondent cites Romanian economic analysts, who say this sum is far too low compared with the country's potential and relative to foreign investments in other Eastern European states.
