Bosnia: A Call For the Arrest of Bosnian Serb Leader Karadzic

THE HAGUE, 3 April 2000 (RFERL) -- The head of the UN war crimes tribunal at the Hague is calling for the immediate arrest of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Kardzic. The call came just hours after NATO-led peacekeepers arrested one of his close colleagues, Momcilo Krajisnik.

Chief tribunal prosecutor Carla Del Ponte said Karadzic should stand trial with Krajisnik who was arrested at his home in Pale, near Sarajevo.

Krajisnik was speaker of the Bosnian Serb parliament during the 1992-95 war and a Bosnian presidency member after the conflict.

Krajisnik was under a secret indictment from the tribunal at the Hague on charges including genocide and war crimes. His extradition process to the Netherlands has started.
