Suicide Attack Targets Top Official In Pakistani Province

Police say a suicide bomber has attacked a convoy carrying the top official in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province.

Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani was unhurt in the attack, but one man was reported killed and several injured.

The attack happened in the provincial capital Quetta as Raisani, an ethnic Baluch, was being driven from his home to the provincial assembly.

No group has yet claimed responsibility.

Baluchistan, on the border with Afghanistan and Iran, is one of the most politically tense parts of Pakistan.

It has been the scene of a decades-long nationalist insurgency demanding more autonomy and a greater share of the region's natural gas, oil, and mineral resources.

Taliban violence has also surged this year.
