Afghan President Hamid Karzai spoke at a news conference on February 26, calling for calm after deadly protests erupted in response to the burning of Korans at a NATO military base. Karzai called on the U.S. government to punish those responsible for destroying the Koran, but also said that Afghans should not allow their enemies -- the Taliban -- to misuse the incident to stir up unrest.
