Police used tear gas and water cannon on June 5 to disperse protesters in Turkey's most violent riots in decades. Other segments of society, from professionals to students, have joined the rallies, broadening the protests against what they see as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's increasingly authoritarian style of government.
