First-Ever Russian Float Joins N.Y. Pride Parade

Russian-Americans and others from the former U.S.S.R. took New York City's gay-pride parade by storm on June 30 with the community's first-ever float in the annual event. The truck, with a Soviet military theme, carried flashily dressed participants down New York's famous Fifth Avenue. But for many, the celebrations were mixed with concern about the state of gay rights in Russia, where a federal ban on "gay propaganda" had just gone into effect.
