Road Accident Kills 6 Near Islamabad

At least six people have been killed and 20 more injured in a traffic accident near Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.

Police officials told RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal that a bus carrying passengers from the eastern city of Lahore to Islamabad collided with a truck near the capital early on December 29.

Police are investigating the accident.

Eyewitnesses claimed the driver had fallen asleep and lost control of the vehicle.

Emergency services rushed the injured passengers to the main hospital in Islamabad where doctors said some were in a critical condition.

Pakistan has one of the world's worst records for fatal traffic accidents, which has been blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles, and reckless driving.
