Kerry Says U.S., Gulf States To Counter Destabilizing Actions

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says Washington and Gulf Arab allies are preparing to counter destabilizing actions in the Gulf.

Kerry was speaking in Doha on August 3 after talks with Gulf states on a nuclear deal between their regional rival Iran and world powers.

Kerry said that he and foreign ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council agreed that once fully implemented, the accord would contribute to the region's security.

Major world powers and Iran last month agreed on a deal in Vienna that would lift sanctions against Tehran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.

Kerry said the ministers also discussed missile defense and arms transfers.

Additional U.S. cooperation with Gulf states would include intelligence sharing and special forces training, he said.
