Former Belarusian presidential candidate Ales Mikhalevich was arrested in December along with fellow candidates and hundreds of supporters as they protested the controversial reelection of President Alyaksandr Lukashenka. This month, Mikhalevich fled Minsk and was granted political asylum in the Czech Republic.
