An Iranian Artist In Jail

A photograph titled "Untitled self-portrait” by Mehraneh Atashi

According to rights groups, over 2,000 political and human rights activists, students, and intellectuals have been arrested in Iran’s postelection crackdown.

In recent days, there have been reports of more arrests in Tehran and other cities, including Kermanshah and Yasuj.

Among those reported arrested are an internationally renowned photographer, Mehraneh Atashi, who according to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran was arrested at her home with her husband, Majid Ghafari, on January 12. The charges against her and her husband are not clear.

Aaron Rhodes, a spokesperson for the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, has said that the arrest and detention of Atashi and her husband are the "tactics of a terror state" and typical of hundreds of other arrests where Iranian citizens have been snatched by the authorities and held without information or explanation.

Here and here are some links to Atashi’s art work.
