Bomb Attacks In Iraq Kill One, Injure At Least 80

Iraqi authorities say two bombs today killed one person and injured at least 80 in an apparent attack on the country's minority Christian community.

Police say a Christian shop owner was killed when a car bomb and a roadside bomb exploded near buses transporting students from the predominantly Christian town of Hamdaniya, some 40 kilometers east of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Hamdaniya mayor Nissan Karoumi says everyone in bus was Christian, and they were traveling to the University of Mosul.

The New York-based Human Rights Watch warned recently that minorities in northern Iraq, including Christians, were at risk because of a longstanding fight between Arabs and minority Kurds for control over the area's oil-rich resources and land.
