A Serbian man has lost his U.S. citizenship and been deported back to Serbia for failing to reveal to U.S. officials his role in war crimes during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.
The U.S. Justice Department said in a statement that Jadranko Gostic, 47, was deported to Serbia on June 1.
According to court records, Gostic concealed his service in the Zvornik Brigade of the Bosnian Serb army when asked during his U.S. immigration and naturalization process about his prior military service.
He was indicted in 2006 for making false statements on his U.S. citizenship application.
International tribunals have found that some units of the Zvornik Brigade participated in war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of some 8,000 Muslim males.
Gostic lived in the U.S. state of Florida after entering the United States in 1999.
