British Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

LONDON (Reuters) -- A British soldier has been killed while on foot patrol in Afghanistan's southern Helmand Province, the Ministry of Defense has said.

The soldier, from the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, operating with the Light Dragoons Battlegroup, was hit by gunshot on the evening of September 13 in Helmand's Babaji district.

"This brave British soldier has paid the ultimate sacrifice and his memory will live with us forever," said army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson.

The soldier is the 214th British military fatality since the Afghan conflict began in 2001. Next of kin have been informed.
