U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu have pledged their commitment to efforts to resume direct peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians aimed at the eventual creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Clinton and Netanyahu released a joint statement after talks on November 11 in New York City.
The statement added that Israel's security requirements would be "fully taken into account" under any future peace deal with the Palestinians.
U.S.-backed peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians resumed in early September but were suspended by the Palestinians after Israel refused to extend a building freeze on West Bank settlements.
The Palestinians are refusing to talk to the Israelis until the settlement ban is reimposed.
